Hosting is where your website lives. Maintenance is the work that keeps it healthy.

Hosting covers the server environment, daily backups, SSL certificates, and the CDN that speeds up your images. Maintenance covers the ongoing work on the site itself: updating WordPress, Refoundry, and your plugins, testing for errors after those updates, and managing security.

You can take one without the other. Most clients take both, because it means one team is accountable when something goes wrong instead of two pointing at each other.

If you have someone in-house who knows WordPress well and has time to keep on top of updates, backups, and security, you may not need one.

Most organizations don’t plan for who covers maintenance and how often, and that’s a problem. Updates get postponed because everyone is busy or there is no dedicated team member doing them. Postponed updates are how sites end up broken or compromised. A maintenance package means it happens on schedule without anyone having to remember.

The other thing you get is priority. When you need something fixed, you’re already in our system, at a preferred rate, dealing with the people who built your site.

The difference is what happens before that point. Sites under maintenance have far fewer outages, because the updates and security work that prevent most failures are already being done. Without it, you’re calling us after something has broken rather than avoiding the break.

As a rule, no. We host and maintain the websites we build, which means we know how they’re put together and can support them properly.

There’s one exception. If we’re building your new site and your current one needs somewhere stable to live in the meantime, we can usually take that on for the duration of the project. Ask us during the sales process and we’ll tell you whether it’s workable.
