PHASE 1
Prototyping
MIRA was established in 2016 to form an interdisciplinary team focused on the complex issues facing Canada’s aging population. They’ve since accumulated a huge volume of resources, and rapidly outgrew their website. They needed a much stronger and more usable site to make that information easier to both discover and share.
Our biggest challenge was reorganizing all that content around multiple newly clarified audiences – and the site also had to meet high accessibility standards. We started by collaborating with their team on a new information architecture, to guide the rest of the project. The MIRA site was also one of the first to be built on our proprietary site builder plugin, Refoundry.
PHASE 2
Style
The new MIRA site needed to maintain their existing branding, to remain unified with the main McMaster University site. We made sure to match the parent site’s spacious layouts and bold use of photography. We also worked with their palette to add some fun colour blocks into the page designs, so the site has just a hint of its own unique feel.
Phase 3
Bringing it All Together
The newly redesigned MIRA website is an accessible, straightforward browsing experience that makes it easy for participants, researchers, faculty, policymakers, and the public to find information. It elevates their story, encouraging engagement in their research and support for their work. And underneath it all is our site builder plugin, Refoundry. This makes it much more flexible, to help their team more easily handle constant content updates.
