About the Organization

The North Shore Multicultural Society (NSMS) is a not-for-profit agency. It has offered specialized settlement, English language services, and integration and family programs since 1991, and immigrant-focused employment services since 2001.

Objectives
  • Improve overall site architecture and navigation to enable easier browsing
  • Improve content strategy and site navigation for better accessibility, especially on mobile
  • Create a user-friendly Resources section with straightforward filtering and search capabilities
  • Implement robust landing pages for the Services area to provide a better overview of options and opportunities
  • Improve SEO performance to increase organic search and improve search rankings
  • Implement a fully responsive solution backed by WordPress CMS
Phase 1

Prototyping

The North Shore Multicultural Society (NSMS) has been providing settlement, language, and immigration services to residents of North Vancouver for 28 years. Their society has a strong reputation for client satisfaction and support. What they needed was a more usable, more accessible website to showcase their range of immigration services — and to better help their rapidly growing client base find the resources they need.

Our focus for this multilingual web design project was all about the user experience. The site needed quick, clear paths to services and workshops, highly searchable content, and easy methods to register or learn more. We knew the development would need to include strong filter and search capabilities. On the flip side, there also needed to be distinguishable paths for the secondary audience of volunteers and donors.

Phase 2

Style

NSMS came to us with well-established branding. We wanted to work with their existing palette, but freshen up their content with new photography, more modern typography, and a less cluttered experience. The new web design is clean and professional, with a more welcoming and engaging look that comes from the enhanced use of authentic photos.

Phase 3

Bringing it All Together

The new NSMS site delivers a highly usable experience in multiple languages. The new content strategy reduces the barriers between new immigrant visitors to the site and the resources they need, with stronger navigation and better search capabilities. In particular, it’s a much stronger user experience for the large portion of mobile traffic. The new site is positioned to improve their SEO and other digital marketing efforts, which is evidenced in their improved performance results.
