About the Organization

CTN+ builds upon the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network (CTN) originally established in 1990 as a cornerstone of the federal AIDS strategy, and now encompasses all STBBIs. With four Scientific Think Tanks and five Regional Teams, the Network facilitates and supports investigator-driven clinical trials and non-interventional research in a range of clinical areas.

Objectives

  • Improve tagging, filtering, and search functionality to ensure users can easily find news, resources, studies, and publications
  • Highlight Think Tanks, regional hubs, and Knowledge Mobilization initiatives with dynamic, automated content feeds
  • Redesign pages for clarity, navigation, and engagement, including new layouts for key pages
  • Create flexible templates for regional hubs and Think Tanks to better connect users with local priorities and leaders
  • Enable easier content management, greater control, and scalability for administrators with a low-code WordPress solution.

Phase 1: Prototyping

Prototyping

We enjoyed working with the efficient, highly organized CTN+ team on a website redesign many years ago, so we were delighted to work with them again. Their organization had gone through some big changes, and needed quite a few structural adjustments on top of a visual design refresh.

This website houses a wealth of resources and other text-based content. The information architecture required a new, complex web of taxonomies, which was a fun puzzle to work through. We needed to plan automated content relationships between researchers, regions, publications, studies, resources, and news.

Phase 2: Style & UI Design

Style

The CTN+ wasn’t doing a big brand overhaul, but they did want to improve how their visual branding was applied to the new site. We created a clean, modern design that incorporates more photography, rounded elements, and new background shapes. This creates a welcoming tone while still evoking their professionalism.

Phase 3: Bringing it all together

Bringing it All Together

The new CTN+ website boasts powerful filters and search capabilities, making it significantly easier for their different audiences to find content. Yet it’s also straightforward to navigate, and visually engaging. And because it’s built on our low-code plugin, Refoundry, their team can easily add and manage content, including all of the taxonomies and the settings on the automated blocks.

Built by Refoundry

Refoundry is a low-code site builder plugin created by Forge and Smith’s owner, Shawn Johnston, and our team of engineers. We’ve been building all of our websites on it since late 2022. It empowers our clients with total creative freedom in WordPress, and the ability to more easily grow and scale their sites.
