VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation is the leading charity investing in health care innovation in BC. Since 1902, VGH has been pioneering medical advancements and helping to provide better patient care.

Objectives

  • Improve the overall aesthetic and user experience and make the site more engaging
  • Improve site architecture and navigation to enable easier browsing and a more frictionless experience
  • Drive conversion of site visitors into contacts and, ultimately, donors by reimagining the flow of existing stories, initiatives and new content to build trust and credibility

  • Implement a fully responsive solution backed by WordPress CMS for easy content management

Phase 1: Prototyping

Prototyping

The VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation is a name that’s recognized throughout the province. We were honoured to be chosen as the partner for their huge website redesign and restructure. 

This was a complex project because the foundation has 12 internal teams, each with a detailed wishlist for the new site – from content management pain points to new pages, forms, integrations, content types, and more. The UX prototype was where the majority of these new areas and mediums came to life.

Phase 2: Style & UI Design

Style

We supported VGH on a visual lift during the first phase of the website project, and then a larger rebrand. The bright green in their logo became a bright, energetic force throughout the site, guiding the user’s eye to key content and conversion points. Background patterns give the layouts dimension. Fresh typography, icons modernize the overall aesthetic, while big use of their authentic photography continues to make an emotional connection.  

Phase 3: Bringing it all together

Bringing it All Together

The new VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation website is visually appealing – and it does a much better job of telling their story. Organic search traffic has increased, and the site boasted a 5% rate on donation page views in the first month. It’s also easy for their team to add new campaign landing pages, impact areas, and events, because it’s built on our visual site builder tool, Refoundry
