About the Organization
Outward Bound Canada offers outdoor education programs that empower youth to get offline and build new skills, while strengthening their mental health. They have a strong focus on providing access to outdoor adventures for those with socio-economic barriers, through their Our Youth Access Fund that subsidizes course fees using a “pay what you can” model based on financial need.

- Storytelling and Engagement: Strengthen engagement through impactful content, compelling visuals, and success stories that highlight OBC’s mission and impact.
- Donor and Sponsor Support: Increase donor and sponsor contributions with clear calls-to-action, transparent impact metrics, and accessible donation workflows.
- Low-Code WordPress Implementation: Deploy a low-code WordPress solution for simplified content management and greater control over updates and scalability.

In 2023 we partnered with Outward Bound Canada to build their Training Academy site, so we were absolutely thrilled to be contracted for the redesign of their main website. This is a huge site that’s critical to driving awareness, information discovery, program registration, and donations.
We started out with a refresh to the information architecture, then focused on planning stronger page layouts to increase storytelling, improve readability, and offer more content relationships.
Style
Outward Bound Canada’s brand has over 50 years of accumulated recognition. We expanded their vivid colour palette just a bit, while keeping the aesthetic bright and outdoorsy. Subtle background patterns, new icons, and updated typography gave the new designs a fun, youthful look while leading the eye to key content.
Bringing it All Together
The new Outward Bound Canada site feels like an invigorating breath of clean air. Finding courses, learning about Outward Bound’s purpose, and learning about their impact are all easily achievable tasks. There’s more storytelling content around the impact of outdoor education on youth mental health, to encourage donations. And because the site is built on our visual site builder tool, Refoundry, it will be easy for their savvy team to manage frequently changing content like courses and team members.

Refoundry is a low-code site builder plugin created by Forge and Smith’s owner, Shawn Johnston, and our team of engineers. We’ve been building all of our websites on it since late 2022. It empowers our clients with total creative freedom in WordPress, and the ability to more easily grow and scale their sites.
