Prototyping
The website for the Lifesaving Society’s BC and Yukon branch houses a wealth of critical information for both the public and its members. But it was huge and old, with massive menus that were extremely difficult to navigate—especially on mobile devices—and pages with extremely short content and further tabbed submenus. They need a significantly improved user experience.
We approached this website redesign focused on a drastic overhaul of the menus, which involved a bit of a site restructure at the information architecture stage. Once we got into UX design, we started working on a custom mega-menu to support their hefty programs and courses area. We also recommended fresh page layouts to merge much of the content that was split out into multiple pages.
Style
The Lifesaving Society’s existing website had a distinctly aquatic palette, but the page felt flat. We expanded their colours to include a few new shades and tints, plus a vivid yellow to draw the eye to buttons and other CTAs. Fresh typography, new icons (with improved placement), and much more photography bring the site to life.
Bringing it All Together
The new Lifesaving Society BC and Yukon website is modern, visually engaging, and most importantly, highly usable. It’s easy to quickly access information on courses, education, membership, and more. And because it’s built on our low-code plugin, Refoundry, it’s easy for their team to edit the menus as their training offering changes, including the custom course finder tables built into the course pages.
Built with Refoundry
Refoundry is a low-code site builder plugin created by Forge and Smith’s owner, Shawn Johnston, and our team of engineers. We’ve been building all of our websites on it since late 2022. It empowers our clients with total creative freedom in WordPress, and the ability to more easily grow and scale their sites.
