Phase 1: Prototyping

Prototyping

The CCPA has a long-standing history as a valuable resource for Canadian policy news. Over time, their site had built up a massive volume of content – the most our team had ever worked with. They wanted a redesign to elevate their site from a magazine-style reading experience to a modern UX with powerful search and filter capabilities.

We needed to approach this with a strong focus on the information architecture. The taxonomies and content relationships were critical factors in tying all of the content together, and improving the way users could browse content. The UX wireframes featured lots of related content blocks to showcase content by province, category, and type.

Phase 2: Style & UI Design

Style

The CCPA was updating their branding to a brighter, more vibrant colour palette. We added those colours into accents like buttons, header backgrounds, links, and CTAs, without distracting from the article content. Legibility and accessibility were always top priority in the new designs.

Phase 3: Bringing it all together

Bringing it All Together

The new CCPA website boasts a complex system of taxonomies. These power the many Query Blocks that automate the majority of page sections, keeping them updated with the latest relevant content. At the same time, the site is built on our lightweight, low-code tool, Refoundry, making it easy for their team to iterate the page sections, add new layouts, and to build their taxonomy database as their site evolves.

Built by Refoundry

Refoundry is a low-code site builder plugin created by Forge and Smith’s owner, Shawn Johnston, and our team of engineers. We’ve been building all of our websites on it since late 2022. It empowers our clients with total creative freedom in WordPress, and the ability to more easily grow and scale their sites.
